Tulum airport (TQO) is open

Tulum International Airport, officially known as Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport (TQO), opened on December 1, 2023, initially offering domestic flights. It is located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) south of Tulum, providing a more convenient option for travelers heading to the Riviera Maya compared to Cancún International Airport

Current Flight Services:

  • Domestic Routes: Flights to major Mexican cities such as Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey.
  • International Routes: Started in March 2024, with flights from U.S. cities like Dallas, Atlanta, Miami, and Chicago, as well as Canadian cities like Toronto and Montreal

Accessibility:

The airport is expected to integrate with the Maya Train, a new rail network connecting Tulum to other key destinations in the Yucatán Peninsula, including Cancún, Mérida, and Chichén Itzá. This will further streamline travel to Tulum and beyond.

Impact:

The airport aims to boost tourism and ease congestion at Cancún Airport. While it offers significant convenience to travelers, it also raises concerns about environmental impacts and the challenges of overtourism in the Tulum region
